Abstract

This research utilizes a Software Defined Radio (SDR)-based communication system operating in the high frequency band of 7 MHz. The communication system with SDR technology consists of two main components: the SDR Transceiver and the Antenna Wire Dipole, which assist in the proper functioning of the SDR-based communication system. Software Defined Radio (SDR) is a technology that utilizes software to execute all commands given by humans, such as HDSDR software. Software Defined Radio (SDR) is a new paradigm that designs architecture by placing ADC and DAC devices after the RF front end, making it more realistic. This is due to cost limitations and the expensive nature of wideband designs in SDR-based transceivers. The transceiver is divided into two parts: the receiver, which captures signals received by the antenna wire dipole, and the transmitter, which emits sound waves that can be properly received by others. In this research, an ICF-SW33 radio receiver is used to receive signals transmitted through the SDR transmitter. This research is conducted using five methods: literature study, component collection, system design, system testing and test results. Testing on the SDR transceiver is performed using three different frequencies to compare the results obtained from each frequency. The data collected in this research include frequency, modulation, noise, audio quality, RF and AF gain, and S-Unit Squelch. Spectrum analyzers and power meters are used as measurement tools in this research.
