Abstract

The Furniture Industry is an industry that processes raw materials or semi-finished materials from wood, rattan and other natural raw materials into finished furniture products that have higher added value and benefits. Many SMEs implement the Job Shop production process. Job shop is a form of conversion process where units for different orders will follow different sequences through work centers that are grouped based on their functions. To always adapt to a dynamic environment, small and medium-scale manufacturing systems, which do not have sufficient funds to purchase new manufacturing process technology, must improve their existing manufacturing systems. One improvement that can be made is to use simulation. Simulation is a process of imitating something real and its surrounding conditions (state of affairs). The action of carrying out this simulation generally describes the key characteristic properties of the behavior of a particular system. Because testing an improvement or change directly to an existing system will certainly require a lot of time and cost, in addition to the risk of failure that is difficult to estimate. From the results of the initial model simulation run, the duration of 42 hours, namely one week of working hours with 11 workers, showed that there was a buildup of products that could not be worked on, as many as 10 chairs at the sanding station and 2 chairs at the inspection station. Based on the simulation made with ProModel 4.2 software, a proposal was given in the production process where 1 worker was added to the Chisel Work Station because the utility level at the work station was very high, which was more than 70%. Thus, the results obtained increased the number of output goods produced in 1 week of working hours to 40 Little Bombay chairs.
