Abstract

The development of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) technology or drones is popular nowadays Most of it are talking about the mission of the drones, Indonesia now is developing UAVs technology, namely Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance is the activity of reconnaissance, monitoring, and observation in a region. Therefore, the UAV must have good efficiency capabilities to support mission. Part of an UAV that has big contribution to good efficiency besides engine is the wing. The function of the wings on the UAV is a major component to produce lifting force. Thus, if there is problem in the wings, like vortex, it will affect their performance. In this study has goals including is to known the condition of airflow, induced drag value, and form selection a drafting wing tip devices in the UAV LSU-05 profile. This study used numerical methods or computational with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) software to predict characteristic aerodynamics and airflow phenomenon around the wing using the wing tip devices or not. The model used is a half-wing LSU-05 profile with NACA 4415 that made with CATIA V5R20 and simulated by ANSYS CFX 17.1. The results showed that the geometry of the wing tip devices by varying the angle of the UAV profile flange affects the CL/CD value and induced drag. It has the greatest CL/CD value at 50 degrees Blended of 29.24 and the induced drag value in 90 degrees Whitcomb was 26,61 N as well as the drafting of the wing tip devices which suits UAV LSU-05 wing profile viewed from quantitative and qualitative data is blended 90 deg
