Abstract

Generator control unit (GCU) in Boeing 737-800NG is an aircraft component has function to control, regulate, and protect the generator when it’s operated. But generator control unit could get trouble which damage aircraft electrical power system. One of the problems that might happen is integrated drive generator (IDG) which could not be controlled by generator control unit causing generator produce over voltage. Method that used to handle overvoltage damage on generator control unit is do the BITE test and detailed testing use automatic test equipment (ATE). Then do the steps troubleshoot of generator control unit. Overvoltage could be handled with replacement of printed wiring circuit board (PWB) in generator control unit. Then re-testing to make sure that generator control unit is not causing overvoltage.
