Abstract

Brake pad is an important part in supporting aspects of the vehicle for driving safety, the development and usage of brake pad is getting faster. This research aims to make a composite material with several types of powder material and with different sintering temperatures. The materials used in this brake pad are chicken eggshell dust and aluminum powder with epoxy resin as a binder. Materials were mixed with composition of 30% chicken eggshell dust, 30% aluminum powder, 40% epoxy resin, then printed and compacted with 120 kg of load then sintered with 120º C, 150º C and 180º C for 120 minutes. The testing method used was wear test with the ogoshi method to identify the wear value on the specimen and hardness testing with the brinell method to identify the hardness level of the specimen. The results of the most optimal wear test sintering if compared to the federal brake pad standards in dry conditions was the 150° C variant, with wear value of dry conditions was 0,0596 mm²/kg and 120° C wear value in wet conditions was 0,405 mm²/kg. The standard wear value of federal brake pad in dry conditions was 0,0520 mm²/kg and federal brake pad in wet conditions was 0,0373 mm²/kg. The highest Brinell Hardness Numbers (BHN) was in the 120° C variant with the hardness value of 136,663 kgf/mm², and the lowest Brinell Hardness Numbers (BHN) was in the 180° C variant with the hardness value of 84,893 kgf/mm², and the hardness value of federal brake pad standards was 114,544 kgf/mm².
