Abstract

Bioarang briquettes are alternative energy in the form of charcoal made from various types of biomass. One of the biomasses used as alternative energy is planting waste. Corn on the cob is a disused lump of corn and has great potential for making briquettes. The skin of the seed is a waste separate from the seeds that have not been used optimally. The purpose of this study was to investigate the calorific value, moisture content, ash content and burn rate. The research method used by this study was experimental research by mixing the corn cob and the seed bark into the 5% tapioca flour adhesive with the following 95:0:5 (%), 70:25:5 (%), 47.5:47.5:5 (%), 25:70:5 (%), and 0:95:5 (%) with the process of charring corn cobs and corn seed bark for 90 minutes at a temperature of 190 ± 50 °C. The results showed that the decrease in the composition of the corn cobs was very influential in the test results performed. The best composition occurred at 95:0:5 (%) with calorific value of 6,042.068 Kal/g, water content of 4.323%, ash level of 7.5246%, burn rate of 0.00086 g/s.
