Abstract

Energy is one of the most important needs in human life. The energy comes from energy sources that are available on earth but that energy was extremely limited in short time. Because of the problem, we need making efforts to take advantages of alternative energy such as harnessing wind energy by wind turbines to get the electricity that the public will use it. Therefore, doing research about design of wind turbine blades for type of taperless was conducted. This design used Qblade software to find out the performance of the taperless blade using NACA 6510 airfoil as 0.8 m. A manual machine method was used to make a blade and mahogany as the blade material. The blade was analyzed in terms of the ease of manufacture and the blade passed balancing test, then the blades were tested on the 12-meter height tower for data of windspeed and the power taken from the blade test. From this research, the results showed that taperless blades based on NACA 6510 have a radius of 0,8 m, a chord width of 0,11 m and twist angle of 9,760° - 17,508°. The results of simulatuion showed the maximum Cp was 55% for TSR 5,5 but in TSR 7,0 showed the minimum Cp of 49%. The results for field testing in 3 days showed data for the first day have efficiency of 30,22%, the second day have efficiency of 40.38 % and the third day have efficiency of 30,45 %.
