Abstract

ATC Mode S Transponder is one of the navigation systems on a Boeing 737- 800 NG aircraft that serves as the data sender from the aircraft to the ATC tower. The ATC mode S transponder system is a no-go item which means if there is any problem in the system, the aircraft is not allowed to continue the flight until the problem in the system are resolved. The common problems that occured in ATC mode S transponder system are caused by failure at one of the system’s components. One example for the type of problems occurred is ATC transponder 1 failed. The method used in resolving problem of the Boeing 737-800 NG’s ATC mode S transponder system done by troubleshooting the system using the BITE test at the failed ATC transponders component. This act is based on Fault Isolation Manual (FIM) Chapter 34-53 and Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) Chapter 34-53 of Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft. After done the troubleshooting, replacement of the failed parts and perform the retest, the outcome is ATC mode S transponder system could operate properly. This is in according to the purpose of troubleshooting the aircraft’s system
