Abstract

Technological developments in the aerospace sector are currently very rapid. The engine is an important part of operating an airplane. The positioning of an engine can affect the aerodynamic performance of the airplane. The use of a Target Drone with an Electric Duct Fan (EDF) engine is used for auxiliary purposes in military shooting practice, so an analysis of the choice of engine position on the Blitzer A23 Drone Target is needed to get a good L/D value. Therefore, it is necessary to study the propulsion configuration regarding the aerodynamics and effectiveness of the control plane on the Blitzer A23 Drone Target. The method used is the Numerical Method/CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic). Testing of the 3-dimensional Target Drone model that had been designed was carried out in cruising conditions. Apart from that, the tests also carried out variations in the engine position configuration, namely on the fuselage, wing and inside the fuselage. It can be seen that the effect of the engine position configuration on aerodynamics and the effectiveness of the control plane which has the best value is the position of the engine in the fuselage. From the aerodynamic analysis that has been carried out to obtain the aerodynamic characteristics of the BLITZER A23 Drone Target, namely the configuration of the engine position on the fuselage, the lift value is 878,914 N and the drag value is 103,518 N. Then for the engine position configuration on the wing, the lift value is 999,267 N and the drag value is obtained. amounting to 97,463 N. Furthermore, for the configuration of the engine position in the fuselage, the lift value was 1539,48 N and the drag value was 111,114 N. From the three analysis results, the propulsion configuration used was the engine position configuration in the fuselage because it had an L/D value the best.
