Abstract

A common problem that often occurs on the KT-1B PT6A-62 aircraft is the failure of the fuel pump. The fuel system is an important component in an airplane because it is in charge of pumping, regulating, and distributing fuel to the engine or aircraft propulsion system. Therefore, proper maintenance evaluation is important to maintain the performance of the aircraft engine and fuel system. This study aimed to identify the causes of fuel pump failure and how to handle it using the FTA Fault Tree Analysis method. The analysis was carried out by defining the failure and determining the boundary conditions of the fuel pump, depicting a fault tree model, identifying the minimum cut set of the fault tree, conducting a qualitative fault tree analysis, and conducting a quantitative fault tree analysis. The results of this study showed that the failure of the fuel pump component consists of 7 intermediate events connected via the " logic gate; OR" and 24 basic events that contributed to the failure of the fuel pump system. One of the most frequent component failures in the aircraft fuel distribution system is related to the fuel pump component which occurred 53 times.
