Abstract
One application of smaw welding is that it can be done on kitchen set frames, one of which is a kitchen set frame made of stainless steel with a thickness of 0.8 mm to 2 mm. The use of a kitchen set is generally for kitchen electronic equipment such as a stove and is able to accommodate cooking utensils as well a seating and drinking utensils. One of the methods used to repair and manufacture kitchen sets is welding. This study used the SMAW (shield metal arc welding) welding method using various heat input ranges of 75 joules/mm, 100 joules/mm, and 125 joules/mm in stainless steel 304 with a thickness of 0.8 mm for application to kitchen sets. Before carrying out the welding process there are many considerations that must be taken into account, one of which is the variation of heat input at the welding joint because the heat input at the joint greatly affects the welding results which will be carried out with several mechanical tests. SMAW (shield metal arc welding) welding joints on tensile strength and microstructure in the haz region and weld metal on stainless steel 304. The results of this study indicate that the highest average value of tensile strength is at 50amperes with an average strength of welded joints of 48.42 kgf/mm2. While the lowest tensile stress is at 30 amperes of 47.58 kgf/mm2. Meanwhile, from the microstructure test it can be seen that in the HAZ area each heat input microstructure in the HAZ region shows that this area is dominated by ferrite. Whereas in the weld metal area and the results of the microstructure test of the weld area at 50 amperes showed a dense microstructure arrangement, this arrangement is identical to pearlite (dark color) so that it makes the specimen harder.
