Abstract
Nose Radome is a part of the aircraft that functions to place the radar antenna and to protect it from the physical environment (rain, wind, ice, aerodynamic pressure) and must be adjusted to the aerodynamics of the aircraft. This study aims to determine the quality of the surface of the nose radome material against sand erosion using the sandblasting method and the sensitivity of the material in receiving electromagnetic waves by utilizing electromagnetic waves on a smartphone that functions as a transmitter and receiver, then compare the results between the original material and the repaired material, and determine the adhesive strength of the PR 1442-A2 sealant using the lap-shear adhesive method. The research method used is a visual test and documents used in the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) SRM (Structure Repair Manual), Aircraft Maintenance Manual, conducting experiments by adding Sealant material used to coat the Radome surface as a protection system. As well as making single-lap joint specimens with fiberglass compositions then combined with sealant as an adhesive and then tested for adhesive strength. The surface quality of the nose radome protected with sealant is more resistant to sand erosion and can be penetrated by electromagnetic waves, testing the adhesive strength of the sealant using the Lap shear adhesive method shows that the bond strength is influenced by the area of the bond line, the wider the size, namely 300.85 mm² on the bond line, the higher the force that can be received by a material, namely 290.17 N.
