Abstract

In the world of aviation, thrust or the driving force of an aircraft is affected by the performance of each component installed in the engine. Fuel filter element is one of the components in the engine that is attached to the fuel pump which serves to ensure the flow of fuel is free from contaminants or dirt. Most cases of fuel pump damage are mostly caused by filter elements. Clogging is a performance degradation of the fuel filter element caused by contaminants that clog the filter so that there is pressure difference between the incoming fluid and the outcoming fluid. The maintenance of paper filter with metal filters is very different. On DC- 9 aircraft, the paper filter is removed and replaced with a new one when the filter component is damaged. While for metal filters, it could be used up to three times. DC-9 aircraft use paper filters as contaminant filters on the fuel system, while other aircraft use metal filters in the filter system. The use of these filters is different, where the paper filter can only be used once and the metal filter can be used several times. The Triangular mark is a code used to determine the usage limit of a filter element. According to the component maintenance manual, the maximum metal filter is used if the triangular mark written on the filter surface has two marks or three times through the maintenance stage
