Abstract

The aircraft is considered to be the safest transportation, but the aircraft has several risks regarding safety, one of them is lightning strikes. The use of static discharger makes it possible for the aircraft to limit lightning strikes, especially modern aircraft. Lightning strikes are one of the static electricity events. The optimal temperature for lightning strike is 20 C, pressure 76 cmHg, with humidity 40-90%. Lightning strike often happen at an altitude of 5,000-15,000 feet. The static discharger troubleshooting is to measure the resistance on the static discharger. Static discharger resistance and bonding resistance are measured using megger and miliohmmeter, respectively. The resistance on the static discharger is wrong because of the corrosion on the retainer and damage on static discharger. Corrosion removal could be done by sanding. Static dischargers that experience damage must be replaced immediately with a new one. After troubleshooting, the static discharger will be checked. Checking is done when the flight is experiencing interference at the communication and navigation system. If there is no disruption in the communication and navigation system during flight then static discharger is serviceable.
