Abstract

The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) component is a component that functions to record sounds heard in the cockpit of an aircraft. This component contains voice data that will be used to facilitate the investigation process when an aircraft has an accident. The voice duration that recorded is the last 30 minutes before an accident occurs. However, CVR also has the weakness that is using recording media in the form of magnetic tape and is equipped with head records and head erases that continuously rotate when the CVR is active so that it causes a dirty head record. If the head record is dirty, the CVR cannot record perfectly. One way to know the performance of CVR that cannot record perfectly is by checking and first testingthe CVR component. The failure of the CVR component occurs because the head record on the tape deck assembly continues to rotate, make the head record is dirty. Troubleshoting in the workshop can be done by following procedures in component maintenance manual 23-70- 40.Troubelshooting was done by cleaning dirty head records with cotton swab and 70% isopropyl alcohol then retesting using the test band in the workshop. After doing troubleshooting and retesting, CVR the components could workwell again. The indication is two beeps (voice only) and two beeps accompanied by the appointment of a test meter needle on a moving test band twice.
