Abstract

Industrial companies are experiencing very rapid development, especially in the manufacturing and service sectors. In order to maximize the quality of the products produced, a quality control method is needed to improve the quality of production. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of sigma at PT. Meskom Agro Sarimas, the factors that cause product defects, and determine an action plan in an effort to improve product quality. The methodology used is DMAIC with the stages of define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. At the define stage, the classification of the types of defects is carried out and the definition of critical to quality (CTQ) is carried out, namely broken cup defects and leaking lid defects. At the Measure stage, the calculation of the sigma value or level is carried out, the sigma level is obtained at 4.92 sigma with a DPMO value of 311.699 and the P-Chart control map shows that there are still defective products that are outside the control limits. Next, the analyze stage is carried out using a fishbone diagram, the factors causing the defects are obtained, namely humans, environment, raw materials, and machines, and the Pareto diagram shows that the percentage of broken cup defects is 30.21% and the percentage of leaking lids is 69.79%. At the Improve stage, improvements are made using Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) with the result that product defects still occur due to the lack of strict supervision carried out by the company on workers and machines. At the last stage, namely control, using 5W + 1H (What, Why, Where, When, Who, How), the result is that defective products are still found so that quality control is needed by supervising workers, regular maintenance on cup filling machines and conveyors, and adding air circulation and air conditioning in the production room.
