Abstract

In the current era of free trade, where product competition is increasingly rampant, product quality and service are very important to be highlighted. Because if this is not highlighted, the logical consequence is that the quality of the products and services offered can be replaced by the quality of other similar products and services, which are more convincing to consumers. This is the basis for PT XYZ's goal to control the quality of the aircraft painting process, especially to minimize defective or failed painting results. Because if the resulting painting quality is poor, it will cause losses for the company and consumers will be dissatisfied with the service provided. This study was conducted using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method. FMEA is a technique for evaluating the level of reliability of a system to determine the effects of failure of the system. In this study, the type of FMEA used is the Process FMEA type, because it will be used to analyze each process that occurs in the aircraft painting process. In addition to FMEA, this study also uses FTA, namely Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) is a technique for connecting several series of events that result in another event. In addition to the FMEA and FTA methods used in solving this problem, tools from quality improvement tools are also used, including: Control Chart, Pareto Diagram, and Cause and Effect Diagram (Fishbone Diagram). In this study, it was found that the capability of the aircraft painting process at Hangar Painting PT XYZ is still low so that control needs to be improved, problems are still found in each aircraft painting process, there is a time difference between the observation time (actual process time) and the time that occurs in the field caused by defects / defects that occur each aircraft painting process that requires additional time for rework / repair, there are 5 defects / defects that need to be considered at this time, namely Rought / rough, Bubble, wavy / uneven, due to insects, and orange peel, and from the FMEA results, 16 potential failure modes were obtained that need to be analyzed using the FTA method and need to be improved at this time in terms of improving the quality of painting results at Hangar Painting PT XYZ.
