Abstract

In a communications system can be observed how the system performance. Comparison of errors with data to be sent is called BER Bit Error Rate. This research was conducted to observe the performance of 16 QAM modulation observed from BER values. To observe the performance of 16 QAM, it was done by GNU Octave software. The simulation is designed to have the same characteristics as the theory. Observations are made by comparing the data received with the data to be sent. noise can cause an error in the data received. From the simulation results obtained graphs of BER values againstEb N0values, when Eb N0= 2, BER value = 9.72 x 10-2 , when Eb N0= 8, BER value = 9.25 x 10-3 and when Eb N0= 13, the value of BER = 2 x 10-5 . Thus the increasing value of Eb / N0 then the BER value will be smaller.
