Abstract
Composite is the most developing material currently. Composite usually made by reinforcing two or more materials in to one single material. Composites have several advantages such as better ductility, able to engineer, are lighter than metal, corrosion resistant, and lower price. In this study, the reinforcers used were the particles of the combustion of epoxy reinforced rice husk with the volume fraction of 0%, 0,8%, 1,6%, 2,4%, 3,2% with mesh size of 100 mesh. This study aimed to identify the tensile strength, impact strength, and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). The method used in the composite manufacturing process was hand lay-up method. From the tensile test it was found that the highest tensile strength was on volume fraction of 3,2% which was 38,368 Mpa and the lowest tensile strength found in volume fraction of 1,6% which was 31,508 Mpa. It could be explained that the effect of adding rice husk particles could increase the tensile strength of epoxy reinforced composites. Based on the impact test, the highest impact value was on volume fraction of 1,6% volume which was 2,2874 Joule, while the lowest impact value was found in the volume fraction of 3,2% which was 1,7244 Joule. The decreasing value in impact strength was not only affected by the variations in the volume fraction, but also in the manufacturing process.
