Abstract

The potential of solar energy in Indonesia as a water heater is very large because Indonesia is located on the equator. Solar energy is superior because it is non-polluting, continuous, and inexhaustible. For developing countries, limited funds are an obstacle. Therefore, the use of solar energy can start from something simple, namely using a parallel type water heater for water use in household needs. The test was carried out by making a parallel type solar water heater with a collector size of 160 cm x 76 cm with a black-painted aluminum-coated styrofoam insulator. In carrying out the test, data was taken from 10:00 WIB to 15:00 WIB. The research was conducted in the yard of the STT Adisutjipto campus. Analysis and discussion obtained the lowest solar radiation intensity is 237 W/m² occurred at 15:00 WIB with a thermal efficiency of 66.2%, and the highest solar radiation intensity is 1249 W/m² occurred at 12:50 WIB with a thermal efficiency of 69%.
