Abstract
One of the ways to increase the lift of an airplane wing (airfoil) is to add a flap to the traling edge of the wing. This aerodynamic analysis was performed on NACA 0012 airfoil mounted with 4 different flap types; plain flap, split flap, slotted flap, and fowler flap. In this research, analysis of four flap types was performed by studying the flow of fluid distribution on the airfoil contours of the airplane to obtain the speed distribution, pressure distribution and forces that occur on area around the airfoil using Computer Fluid Dinamic (CFD) based software. The analysis was done by simulating the flow of fluid that flowing on airfoil NACA 0012 by using CFD based software that is Ansys Fluent. The purpose of this analysis was to find out the coefficient values, drag coefficient values, and the most efficient flap type from four flaps used for the simulation process of each flap which was mounted on the airfoil of different types corresponding to the angle of attack 0° , 5°, 10° and 10°. The method used was simulation analysis. The simulation was done by modeling the airfoil NACA 0012 with the inventor autodesk software and stored in the Iges format to be inputted into Ansys Fluent software to simulate. The value of the resulting simulation analysis could be concluded that most efficient used of the flap type of the four flaps mounted on NACA 0012 airfoil with an airplane speed value of 80 m/s and flap deflection for all flaps 30° was flap with plain flap type bacause it has L/D value bigger than the other flaps with 11.9702.
