Abstract
Wind turbines are windmills that used to generate electricity. The basic principle of the work of a wind turbine is to convert wind energy into mechanical energy in the windmill, then the spinning wheel is used to rotate a generator that will generate electricity. One of the things that must be considered in windmills is the strength and durability of the wind turbine hub structure design. Because the hub (of the wind turbine) is one of the important parts of the wind turbine, the author analyzes the strength of the wind turbine hub structure to ensure that the structure is able to handle the load that occurs during its operation. The process of this analysis is to calculate the value of the centrifugal force load where the load will be applied to the wind turbine hub structure that has been modeled and then analyzed using the MSC Patran / Nastran Program. The analysis process in the software uses finite element method. Finding the strength value of a wind turbine hub structure can be done after obtaining the results of the analysis by knowing the value of the Margin of Safety (MS ≥ 0) and Failure Indices (FI ≤ 0) so the structure can be concluded to be safe. The results of the analysis explain that the hub structure of the wind turbine is able to hold the centrifugal force load of 6069.56976 N with a Margin of Safety value of 2.603 on the core and the Failure Indices value on each skin lamina smaller than 1. From the results of the analysis can be concluded that the overall structure of the wind turbine hub can still withstand centrifugal force loads.
