Abstract

The world of aerospace is a world that is closely related to aviation science. Aerospace engineering is one of the important foundations in aviation science, which aims to study, research, develop and engineer aviation vehicles. In order to develop aviation vehicles, research was conducted on the manufacture of the Go-Drone STTA UAV using lightweight and strong materials such as sandwich composites. The purpose of the research was to find out how the Go-Drone STTA aircraft is made using sandwich composites and the strength of the carbon fiber laminate composite structure. In the manufacture of the Go-Drone STTA aircraft, the hand lay up and vacuum bagg methods were used. The method of making composite materials that use the application of composite liquid application with a brush and a mold that is inserted into a bag or membrane. Then the air is removed from the inside of the bag by vacuuming. To determine the mechanical properties of the carbon fiber laminate composite in making the aircraft, tensile testing was carried out according to the ASTM D3039 standard. In the process of making the Go-drone STTA aircraft, stages such as making the master molding, middle wing, wing, winglet and assembly of the Go-Drone STTA aircraft were carried out. In the testing process, the results of the mechanical characteristics of the carbon fiber laminate composite with lycal resin adhesive N1011 in the tensile test were obtained, the average value of load, strain, ultimate strength and modulus of elasticity was 23,353.4 N, 4.31%, 545.52 MPa, and 15,487.25 MPa. In the tensile test, the failure forms were DIT (Edge Delamiation, Inside grip/tab, Top) and LGM (lateral, Gage, Middle)
