Abstract

Aluminum is a type of metal with the advantages of lightness and ductility high, and corrosion resistant. Therefore aluminum is used as a metal the basis for an airplane. One treatment to slow down the rate corrosion on 2024 T4 aluminum, namely by anodizing. Anodizing is electrolytic coating process to coat metal surfaces. This research aims to determine the rate of corrosion that occurs in aluminum 2024 T4. The process in this research uses the artificial aging, holding method time and anodizing. The specimen was heated at 5600 with time heating for 4 hours, then quenching and then artificial aging with holding time 1, 7, 11 hours. The results of artificial aging are then tested for hardness with the Vikings method. Specimens that have not and have undergone artificial aging anodizing is carried out, then corrosion testing is carried out. Hardness testing of the raw material obtained a value of 136.3 HVN. After Artificial aging was carried out with a holding time of 1, 7, 1 1 hour and obtained a value of 150.1 HVN, 159.4 HVN, and 172.4 HVN. Corrosion rate value for 2024-T4 aluminum on raw materials, a value of 1.063 mdd was obtained and on materials anodizing with a current of 0.1 A obtained a value of 0.265 mdd. while speed Corrosion in the anodizing and artificial aging processes was obtained at 0 mdd.
