Abstract

A propeller is a type of fan that transmits power by converting rotational motion into thrust. In principle, the performance and characteristics of propellers used in aircraft are very influential for supporting the performance of an aircraft. Characteristics of propeller can be predicted experimentally by performing isolated propeller tests. The purpose of this fiinal Assignment is to calculate the thrust coefficient, calculate the efficiency and can visualize the flow pattern on the propeller. Isolated propeller test conducted at Low Industrial Wind Engineering Tunnel. From the test resulted qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data will be obtained flow visualization results in propeller by adding tracer in the form of smoke and yarn. While quantitative data will be obtained by conducting propeller test using Load cell at 1000 s.d 6500 rpm when wind off conditions. Load cell output results will produce the measurement of propeller that is thrust value for the next processed into thrust coefficient value and efficiency. The test results of the propeller at wind off conditions, the maximum thrust coefficient value is at 6000 rpm of 0,189. While the maximum efficiency also occurs at rpm 6000 for a efficiency of propeller by 65,7% and the efficiency of propeller by 76,5%. In addition, from the flow visualization swirl pattern occurs behind the propeller, turbulent flow patterns occur behind nacelle, and the laminar flow patterns occurs on the nacelle surface just behind the propeller.
