Abstract

The increase in the number of flights will increase ATC (Air Traffic Control) activities at the airport which are required to have speed and accuracy in processing information obtained in making decisions to avoid accidents. In the ATC operator, the tower control section gets double work because they have to help the aeronautical communication section which is short of staff. So this will increase the workload in the tower control section. This study was conducted on ATC (Air Traffic Control) employees of LPPNPI Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, with the aim of calculating the workload value felt by ATC operators, especially the tower control and aeronautical communication sections, in order to find out how much mental workload the operator receives. The subjective workload measurement used is NASA TLX which consists of six dimensions of workload measurement, namely mental needs, physical needs, time needs, performance, effort level, and frustration level. After obtaining the workload value experienced by ATC employees, categorization was carried out based on employee age, gender, length of service, and work division. Then, from the results of the classification, the causes of the workload experienced by ATC employees were further identified using a fishbone diagram. The results of the study showed that the average mental workload of ATC (Air Traffic Control) employees at LPPNPI Bima, West Nusa Tenggara was relatively high, this was because the average workload of all ATC employees reached 82.58. When viewed in terms of employee age, the highest workload is experienced by employees aged between 50-59 years with an average value of 82.67, based on gender, high workload is experienced by women with an average value of 82.84, when viewed from the length of service, high workload is experienced by employees with a length of service between 16-20 years with an average value of 82.03, and based on the work division, high workload is experienced by employees in the Tower Control division with an average value of 81.42. Therefore, the author suggests that new employees be added to the ATC section to reduce employee workload.
