Abstract

The use of rice husk charcoal reinforcement aims to reduce the yield of waste from the remaining rice mills in Indonesia. It is because the use of rice milling residues is still scarce. Therefore this study used rice husk as a reinforcing mixture on the composite. This study aimed to identify the effect of composite drying temperature on mechanical and morphological properties using drying temperature variations of 40ºC, 50ºC, 80ºC and 100ºC. Fillers used in this study were glass fiber and reinforcement used was rice husk charcoal powder. The tensile strength value shown at a drying temperature of 50ºC showed a value of 166.26 MPa. While the lowest tensile strength value was 100ºC at 146.15 MPa. The best impact strength was shown at a drying temperature of 50ºC indicating the value 0.267 J / mm². While the lowest impact strength was 100ºC at 0.237 J / mm². The test results showed the strength of mechanical properties increased strength with the addition of drying temperature, but at a certain temperature it decreased mechanical strength. Morphological test results on composite samples with a drying temperature of 50ºC showed the presence of voids, fiber breakage, and fiber pullout. This happened because in the stirring process there was air trapped in the matrix, causing voids.
