Abstract
This research aims to determine the effect of the amount of fiberglass woven variation on tensile strength and impact strength of composite hybrid matrix polyester and rice husk particles. The matrix used in composite manufacture is unsaturated polyester Yukalac 157 BQTN and catalyst 1 %. The particles used in composite manufacture are carbon produced from carbonization. The reinforcing material uses fiberglass woven. The composite creation method is a hand lay-up method. Variations of test are using different variations in the layers number of fiberglass woven : 2 layers, 3 layers, and 4 layers, with using stirring round of 885 Rpm for 15 minutes and the curing temperature of 100oC for 60 minutes. Furthermore, the tensile strength, impact strength, and SEM test were conducted. The research shows the results of the tensile tensting and impact testing. The highest tensile strength was obtained from a composite hybrid with 4 layers of fiberglass woven at 170,03 Mpa. Besides, the lowest tensile strength was obtained from a composite hybrid with 2 layers of fiberglass woven at 86,16 MPa. The impact test was obtained on the highest impact strength and impact energy on a composite hybrid with 3 layers of fiberglass woven at 0,06 J/mm2 and 2,40 Joule, while the lowest impact strength and impact energy on a composite hybrid with 2 layers of fiberglass woven at 0,03 J/mm2 and 1,13 Joule. The SEM test was coducted on fracture of tensile test speciment on a composite hybrid with 4 layers of fiberglass woven. According to the results, matrix crack, debonding, and fiber pull out at fiberglass woven was identified.
