Abstract
Welding of Tungsten Inert Gas TIG has been widely used for welding metals that require special attention during welding processes such as aluminium. The application of Al−Mn−Mg aluminium alloy is used in storage tanks that requires high corrosion resistance. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of variations in TIG welding speed on the physical properties of microstructure and mechanical properties on the tensile strength and hardness of vickers aluminium alloy Al−Mn−Mg. The materials used in this study were Al−Mn−Mg aluminium alloy with a thickness of 10 mm, using ER5356 filler metal, EWP electrode type, and single V seam O 70° . Variations in welding speed used were 12 cm/minute, 18 cm/minute, and 24 cm/minute. From the results of the study, it was identified that the welding speed of TIG can affect the physical and mechanical properties of aluminium alloy Al−Mn−Mg. The results of microstructure testing in the weld area indicated that the elements of Mn alloys and Mg alloys elements widened/ lengthened and spread. The microstructure in the HAZ area indicated that the elements of Mg alloys had granular growth/ grain growth. The highest tensile strength test results were found on the specimens welding speed of 24 cm/minute with the highest average tensile strength as 137,65 N/mm2 , the highest yield strength as 105,75 N/mm2 , and the highest strain as 14,3%. The highest vickers hardness test results in the weld area and HAZ area were found on the specimens welding speed of 12 cm/minute with the highest average hardness value in the weld area as 74,2 VHN and the highest hardness in the HAZ area as 67,7 VHN
