Abstract
A composite is one of the materials widely used nowadays because composites have advantages of the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, light density and simple manufacturing process. This study used glass fiber and powder as the result of burning rice husk as reinforcement in the material composite because it is easy to get. In addition, the abundant materials and the ingredients in rice husk containing a lot of lignocellulose material cause strong and rigid properties. Therefore they can be made as a composite material. This study aimed to indentify the effect of volume particle fraction generating from the use of rice husk using a volume fraction of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%. The materials used in this study were glass fiber WR 600 (woven roving), powder produced by burning rice husk and general purpose epoxy type matrix (Bhiphenol A-epichlorohydrin) Bakelite EPR and hardener versamid 140. The method used in the composite manufacturing process was hand lay up. The tensile and impact tests results showed that the volume fraction of 8% has a more optimal value or the highest. The morphological test results on the composite sample volume fraction of 8% showed the presence of voids and fiber breakage because in the stirring process there was air trapped in the matrix giving rise to voids in the composite.
