Abstract

Power which required by airplane to provide lift is known as induced power. The purpose of writer to bring this topic is to know the induced power value and the efficiency of Bell 205A-1. Bell 205A-1 is quite old considering it’s age, this is one of the reasons which interests the writer to do some researches to find out the induced power value and the efficiency of those planes while hovering. Firstly, in order to determine the induced power value and the efficiency of each plane, some data need to be obtained from observation, interview, and doing test flights. In this case, the writer uses analytics method. By using formulas in momentum theory, those obtained data will be able to be processed to give rational and wanted results. Ideal induced power which owned by each plane is pretty high, considering the available engine power. The required induced power value for HA-5124 is 303886.2511 Watt, for HA-5125 is 327129.0172 Watt, for HA-5126 is 306989.8781 Watt, and for HA-5128 is 300551.7547 Watt. The required actual induced power has higher number because of drag effects. The average values for actual induced power value for each plane are 424606.6607 Watt for HA-5124, 453876.2372 for HA-5125, 431942.3898 for HA-5126, and 429128.8474 for HA- 5128. The efficiency for each plane is: HA-5124 has 0.71572, HA-5125 has 0.72078, HA-5126 has 0.71075, and HA-5128 has 0.70041. From the obtained results it can be said that those planes have good efficiency because the average values are greater than 0.6
