Abstract
Composite material is a material that is often used in making UAV. In the comparison of costs and time can be carried out with a vacuum forming manufacturing method, the material used is plastic. This can help reduce UAV manufacturing time and costs. The composite manufacturing process uses the hand lay up and vacuum bag method, while the manufacturing process of several thermoplastic materials uses a vacuum forming. Plastic used for vacuum forming is PVC 130º C, ABS 150º C, Acrylic 200º C and Nylon 140º C. In the process of selecting the best material in this study using the screening concept method. In vacuum forming manufacturing for PVC, ABS and Acrylic materials, it was successfully carried out, but on Nylon material, the manufacturing results failed. After obtaining manufacturing results, a cost and time analysis is carried out. The results of the screening concept matrix show that acrylic is a suitable material for making UAV canopies using the vacuum forming method.
