Abstract
Peanut peel and coconut shell are abundant biomass wastes but they are not processed to be useful substances. In fact, they can be used as alternative fuel for fossil fuel that will provide many benefits. Its utilization can be done by converting them into bio charcoal, through the process of carbonization, with the addition of adhesives then compacted with a certain press. This research aimed to find out the characteristics of bio briquettes from a mixture of peanut peel and coconut shell including moisture content, ash content, calorific value and bio briquette combustion rate. In this study the variations of the bio briquette mixture tested were by comparison of peanut peel and coconut shell as 95%:0%, 47.5%:47,5%, 0%:95%. Each variation was added with tapioca adhesive as 5% of the total weight of bio briquettes. Based on the results of the study, the more coconut shell mixture affected the increase and decrease of the characteristic value on bio briquettes. The lowest water content was 4.17% in the mixture of 95%:0%, the lowest ash content was 6.81% in the mixture of 0%:95%, the highest calorific value was 6548,660 cal/g in the mixture of 0%:95%, and the lowest combustion rate was 0.015613243 g/min in the mixture of 0%:95%. The study was already in accordance with the quality standards, only the value of ash levels in variations containing peanut peel did not meet the standard
