Abstract

Cooling tower is a tool that is functionalized to cool water or fluid, with air as a cooling media. Cooling tower is defined as a fluid heat exchanger which works to cool the water by making it in the air to vaporize a fraction of the water. This research used corrugated fiber material. The use of corrugated fiber and variation of the angle of filler material is expected to be able to break the flow of water and inhibit water speed, so the water and air contact becomes longer, and expected to increase the value of the range, the effectiveness and quality of the performance of cooling tower. The purpose of this research is to find out the most optimal filler angle and how to influence the variety of tilt angle filler material to range, approach, and effectiveness of mini cooling tower. Cooling tower sizes were 40 cm x 30 cm x 90 cm. The variations of the angle of filler used were 5 °, 10 °, 15 ° and 20 °. The water temperature used ranges from 50 ° C and the filler material used was corrugated fiber. The test results obtained the highest value of the range was at an angle of 5 ° with 14 ° C and the lowest range was at an angle of 20 ° with 12 ° C. The maximum value of approach was at an angle of 5 °with 9.9 ° C and the minimum approach was at an angle of 20 ° with 11.9 ° C. The best effective value at 5 ° angle was 58.6% and the best cooling capacitance value at 5 ° angle was 2.352 Kj/s. The results of research obtained that filler is very influential to the performance of cooling tower. The greater the angle of filler then the performance of cooling tower decreases
