Abstract
Mechanical flap are some components that are in the flap system in charge to assist in regulating the movement of the flap surface retract or extend the command of the flap control lever in the cockpit. The flap system contained in boeing 737-500 aircraft has a function that is to increase the lift of the aircraft wing according to the one specified when the aircraft will be takeoff up to climbing. When the aircraft is in the approach to landing phase, the flap system is also indispensable for generating more lift at relatively low speeds. At the time of periodic maintenance of the mechancial flap, a problem was found that the flaps were operating 20 seconds every "Gate" flap control lever, where the time allowed by the Aircraft Maintenance Manual Boeing 737-500 (AMM) AC-27 flight control was 11-14. Therefore troubleshooting the mechanical flap by using methods that refer to fault isolation manual (FIM) and also Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) to find how to solve the problem. At the time of inspection what caused the problem, it was found that the hydraulic motor flap component occurred damage where the piston cylinder wall was scratched and damage to the cylinder piston. This is because foreign object damage (FOD) comes in conjunction with hydraulic fluid. Because the damage to the hydraulic motor flap cannot be repaired, a replacement is done on the hydraulic motor flap as a whole. After retesting, the flap can operate normally and the aircraft will fly to conduct commercial air transport activities (serviceable).
