Abstract

The drilling process on the F1A glider aircraft often arises several problems, one of which is punching or delamination defects, which is a measure of the damaged area around the hole. This study aims to determine the results of delamination in composite materials with different thickness variations, the material used is carbon fiber composite with epoxy resin matrix, the method used to determine the results of delamination is the formula for calculating the delamination factor (Fd), while to see the effect of variations in thickness and cutting speed using two-way ANOVA based on hypothesis testing using the F distribution on the P-value. The drilling process is carried out using a CNC machine using a 6mm twist drill bit. Thickness and cutting speed are very influential on the results of delamination, where each thickness increases, the resulting delamination value also increases, as well as the cutting speed where each cutting speed increases, the resulting delamination value also increases. This is reinforced by ANOVA calculations with P-value results in each thickness variation and cutting speed smaller than 0.05. The lowest delamination factor at thickness variations of 1.5mm, 2mm, and 2.5mm occurred at a cutting speed of 28.3 mm/min with values of 1.037, 1.145 and 1.201, respectively. The highest delamination factor in thickness variations of 1.5mm, 2mm, and 2.5mm occurred at a cutting speed of 65.9 mm/min with values of 1.566, 1.623 and 1928 respectively. With these results, the higher the thickness value and cutting speed, the resulting delamination increases.
