Abstract

Water turbine is used to convert water into rotational energy. The performance of the Archimedes screw turbine is influenced by several parameters, including turbine immersion level, turbine tilt angle, pitch ratio, discharge, and number of angles. This research focuses on variations in water discharge with sizes of 300, 350 and 400 liters. The method used in this research is the experimental method. In Archimedes screw turbines, variations in the water discharge used greatly influenced the mechanical performance of the turbine where the rotational speed of the turbine shaft increased with each variation in the water discharge that we used. In this research, the highest mechanical power was generated from the discharge of 400 liters with the load of 0.7 kg with the value of 17.24 watts and the lowest value was 11.59 watts at the load of 0.7 kg with the water discharge used of 300 liters. The highest efficiency value occurred at the discharge of 300 liters with the applied loading of 0.5 kg generated the efficiency value of 48.49% and the lowest efficiency value occurred at the discharge of 350 liters with the applied loading of 0.7 kg resulting in the efficiency value of 39.09%. In conclusion, each variation of water discharge has different mechanical power and efficiency values.
