Abstract
The aerospace technology field has experienced rapid advancements, particularly in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The use of UAV has extended into both commercial and civil industries, including disaster management, fire monitoring, aerial photography, mapping, and observation. One company involved in the UAV sector, specializing in the Sky walker X8 model, is CV. Arcapada Raya, operating an aircraft named Sky-Lab with a mission focused on aerial photography, observation, and monitoring. The purpose of this research is to design a propulsion system for the UAV Sky-Lab by incorporating a Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) system, allowing the aircraft to take off without requiring a large area. The propulsion system design results obtained data for Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) of 6,741 grams or 6.7 kilograms with VTOL propulsion system using a brushless motor, specifically the Sunnysky X3520 520 kv model, paired with multirotor propellers of type 1245 with a lift force of 5.4 kg per motor. The hover-to-cruising transition control used in the VTOL UAV Sky- Lab involves a combination of a 7-second transition duration, resulting in optimal transition with a differential altitude of 1 meter, and a steady-state time of 6 seconds.
