Abstract

The wind tunnel located at the Adisutjipto Aerospace Technology Institute to measure lift and drag still uses analog (conventional) readings, so to make it more practical in reading the authors replace it with lift and drag sensors with a digital display. The use of sensors can also directly process data using a computer because the sensor can be directly connected to the computer. This study designed a measuring instrument to measure lift and drag, using a load cell sensor to determine the force reaction that occurs, which is processed by the Arduino Uno R3 amplifier and microcontroller with the results displayed on a 16x2 display The object of research in my thesis is a lift and drag sensor using a NACA 0012 airfoil test specimen, Chord 100 mm, span 120 mm, Reynolds Number 80,000. The measuring instrument used for lift and drag forces is a load cell strain gauge sensor which can read the resistance value on a strain sensitive pattern, then it will be processed by the Arduino micro controller and displayed as the magnitude of the lift and drag force on the monitor screen. This design uses 2 load cells for lift force and drag force, the resulting force will be displayed through the monitor display. The graph of the CL values looks different, but from the CFD results the trends are similar, but when compared to other experimental data the resulting trends are different but with close values. For the value of CD seen from the data produced the value is close. The test results and the existing experimental data are not valid and cannot be used for practicum. Further validation is needed because the resulting values are not the same as other experimental data.
