Abstract

As time goes by the use or operation of aircraft, every system or component of the aircraft experiences a decrease in performance, one of which is experiencing failure. Beta system is a system that functions to regulate the amount of oil flow that enters the propeller piston section, where as a regulator of the size of the angle on the propeller. The existence of several types of failures that occurred in the beta system resulted in the beta system having to be replaced even before reaching its 2500 flight hour limit. This study aims to determine the failure that often occurs, the causes of failure, and the probability of failure of the beta system of the Grob G 120 TP-A aircraft using the FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) method. The analysis is done by defining the failure and determining the boundary conditions of the beta system, describing the fault tree model, identifying the minimum cut set of the fault tree, conducting a qualitative analysis of the fault tree, and performing a quantitative analysis of the fault tree. The results of this study show that the failure that often occurs in the beta system of the Grob G 120 TP-A aircraft is the occurrence of oil temperature high over 84 ℃, in qualitative analysis there are 12 causes of failure in the beta system, and based on quantitative analysis, the probability of beta system failure is 0.76363.
