Abstract

Wing is the main structure of an airplane wing that serves to generate lift. Wing on the UAV VTOL V-SKY 14 aircraft must have a structure that meets the criteria of strength and stiffness and must be able to withstand the loads that occur, one of which is bending loads. Wing bending strength can be identified by bending testing. Bending test is a process of testing material by pressing it to get results in the form of data about the bending strength of a material being tested. The purpose of this final project is to determine the maximum stress and maximum load that can be resisted by wings made of styrofoam and sandwich composites and to find out how much the percentage increase in strength is. The research method used is the experimental method, where the research starts from the preparation of tools and materials, the process of making the wings, testing the wings and doing calculations. The wing testing is carried out using the three point bending method, where the wing is given a load centrally at one point in the middle of the wing, then the wing is given a load continuously until the wing being tested breaks. The test results showed that the wing bending test made of styrofoam material was able to withstand a maximum bending load of 249.9 N. While the wing made of sandwich composite material was able to withstand a maximum load of 316.54 N. For the percentage increase in the load that the wing could withstand was 26.67%.
