Abstract

The aircraft braking system thrust reverse is the most critical sub-system of an aircraft. In the aspect of military aviation, thrust reverser shortens the landing distance of aircraft and greatly improves the efficiency of fighter aircraft. In the field of civil aviation, the thrust reverser has a significant impact on civil aviation construction where the landing slip distance of the aircraft has been shortened from 3000 m to 450 m. In this study, the authors conducted a study that aims to analyze the possible causes of failure and handling of thrust reversers that have failed, namely delays in opening the thrust reverser. This research uses observation methods and information from various sources. In addition, this study also uses the Fault Tree Analysis FTA method to determine the root cause of failure of the thrust reverse system on Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft. The results of this study indicate that the failure analysis of the reverse thrust which has a delay in opening comes from the damaged sync shaft component. Replacement of sync shaft components with new components refers to AMM 78-31-04-000-801-F00, AMM 78-31-04-400- 801-F00, AMM 78-31-04-200-801-F00 and FIM 78-34 Task 805. By using the fault tree analysis method related to the problem of thrust reverse experiencing slow to deploy, 6 basic events were obtained that might cause failure, namely hydraulic actuator damage, hydraulic actuator loosen bolts, hydraulic actuator gimbal pins curly pins , hydraulic actuator rod end damage, hydraulic actuator rod end loose nut, and hydraulic actuator rod end damage attachment fitting.
