Abstract

The formation of icing on airplanes is caused by the presence of supercooled water droplets in the atmosphere. Accumulation of ice on aircraft can result in a decrease in lift due to changes in the shape of the aerofoil wing and loss of air flows around the leading edge and upper surface. The method used in this research is observation and information from various sources. Furthermore, this thesis also uses the fault tree analysis (FTA) method to find the root cause of the possible occurrence of the wing thermal anti-ice failure problem on the Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft. The result of research on the problem of wing thermal anti-icing Boeing 737- 800 NG is that there is a problem with the TAI solenoid valve. To overcome this problem, a troubleshooting process is carried out which refers to AMM 30-11-12. By using the fault tree method, with the wing thermal anti-icing system problem, 11 basic events are obtained, namely: Crack, Leak, Bending Force, Wiring Problem, No Electricity Flow, Bending, Pin damage, Short Circuit, Motor Fault, Corrosion in Spring, Low Voltage 28V DC.
