Abstract
"Alphaset sand molding is a mold and core manufacturing technique for metal casting processes that uses resin as a binder among sands. The addition of a catalyst as a mixture of resin aims to harden the resin. This process is free from sulphur and phosphorus contamination which can trigger cracks in the product with a mixture of resin as a binder between sand which will affect the strength of the sand mold. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding 1.4%, 2.1% and 2.8% Alpha phenolic resin with an Epoxy catalyst of 25% of the resin using the parameters of the tests carried out in the alphaset molding process, namely the water content test, lost of ignition (LOI) and compressive strength of sand. The results showed that the best water content test used occurred in the resin variation of 2.1% with the best moisture content of 1% because the limit obtained from the metal and machinery center (BBLM) was 1-1.8%. In the LOI test that can be used in the casting process, the resin variation was 2.1% with an average LOI value of 1.5%. While the compressive strength test that is suitable for use was the resin variation of 2.1% with a maximum compressive strength of 34.7 N/mm²."
