Abstract

Flap mechanics are several components in the flap system that assist in regulating the movement of the flap surface, both retraction and extension according to the command of the flap control lever in the cockpit. The flap system found on the Boeing 737-500 has a function, namely to increase the lift from the aircraft wing as determined when the aircraft is going to takeoff to climbing. Flap failure analysis on the aircraft based on the results of observations and information obtained at PT. Pigeon Maintenance Facility. In addition, this study also uses the fault tree analysis method to find the cause of the problem that the flap cannot operate on the Boeing 737-500 aircraft. When checking the cause of the problem, the hydraulic motor flap component was damaged where the cylinder wall was scratched and the cylinder piston was damaged. This is due to foreign body damage (FOD) entering along with the hydraulic fluid. Because the damage to the flap hydraulic motor cannot be repaired, the entire flap hydraulic motor component is replaced. By analyzing the causes of failure in operational flaps using the FTA method, we get 10 basic events consisting piston stuck, piston and piston wall scratched, gear reduction no lubricte, gear reduction aus, high tension cable, low tension cable, cam roller broken, linkage broken, slide assembly stuck, control unit linkage stuck.
