Abstract

Sugarcane pulp and coconut shells are biomass wastes that can be well utilized as alternative fuels to replace fossil fuels that will provide many benefits. An example of the use of biomass is briquettes. This study was to investigate the effects of the characteristics of briquettes from sugarcane pulp and coconut shell waste that affect the moisture content and rate of combustion. This study used an experimental method with a variety of materials with the percentage of pulp and coconut shells with the composition 10%: 80% and 20%: 70% with 10% tapioca adhesive with 5 cm diameter briquettes. The results showed that the more pulp content, the more the water content value and the lower the briquette burning rate value existed. The value of the moisture content met the quality requirements of briquettes with the best variation in the content of pulp and coconut shells 10%:80% and 10% adhesive with the results of 4.11% water content and 0.02832 gr/minute.
