Abstract

Bagasse is the residue from the sugarcane milling process after it is extracted or the juice is removed in the sugar refining industry so it is called fibrous waste known as bagasse. Corn cobs are parts of corn that are no longer used and are a potential biomass waste for making briquettes. This study aims to make briquettes from corn cobs and bagasse as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel, to determine the characteristics of biobriquettes from a mixture of bagasse and corn cobs, including moisture content, ash content, calorific value and the rate of combustion of biobriquettes. The method used was corn cobs and bagasse, carbonized for 3 hours, using 80 mesh, 5% tapioca adhesive, printed using a press with a capacity of 2 tons anddrying briquettes (oven temperature 75 ℃ for 3 hours). The test results are compared with SNI 01-6235-2000 for the quality characteristics of briquettes In this study, the variation of the biobriquette mixture tested was the ratio of corn cobs and bagasse = 95%:0%, 70%:25%, 47.5%:47.5%, 25%:70%, 0%:95% . Each was added with tapioca adhesive as much as 5% of the total weight of the biobriquettes. The results showed that the best variation was briquettes with a composition of 25%:70% with the highest calorific value of 6633.26(cal/g) which was expected, the highest combustion rate was in the variation of 47.5%:47.5% with a yield of 0. 0.01559(g/min). In another study that the calorific value of bagasse is low, but in my research that the calorific value of bagasse is high. Of all the tests carried out, all of them met the quality standards of the briquettes used, except for the value of the ash content in variations A1,A4,A5 which did not meet the quality standards of briquettes.
