Abstract

In the development of the aerospace, many types of aircraft are used in aviation. In this case, the aircraft is not only used as a mode of transportation to transport passengers but also for land mapping, traffic monitoring, mount Merapi monitoring and so on. In this development, the scale of aircraft size is reduced compared to those used as passenger transportation. This aircraft is often referred to UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). Ducted fan is a component to improve the functional fan that is used as a medium to direct the flow of fluid that will pass through the fan. The volume of fluid passing through the fan will change directly proportional to the diameter of the duct inlet. Initially, ducted fan was only used in marine propulsion. Due to its development, now it is also used in aircraft, drones or UAV. This study was conducted to get a comparison of thrust fan results from those without ducted and those using ducted with a ducted inlet diameter of 70 mm, fan blades used as 6 blades, and have an outlet diameter of 63 mm. The thrust efficiency was obtained by experimenting the power variations to get the same fan rotation. The analysis of the tests indicated that the results of thrust fans without ducted (unducted) with a maximum power of 250 Watts at fan rotation of 30750 rpm obtained thrust as 4.6 Newtons. Meanwhile, the ducted with the same power at fan rotation of 30781 rpm obtained thrust as 4.9 Newtons. From the results of ducted and unducted tests, the average thrust increase efficiency was 20.58%.
