Abstract

At present the need for electrical energy is increasing along with the growth of humans and electrical equipment. One alternative energy that has good potential is water energy. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of blade area variations on overshot waterwheels. This research is an experimental type of research, the waterwheel used is the overshot type with a wide variation of blade 10cm x 10cm, 13cm x 10cm, 16cm x 10cm. This research was conducted in the disposal of fish pond water. Then it is observed how many values of rotational speed, voltage and current are generated and analyzed to produce power and efficiency. The results obtained that the highest output power in an area of 16cm x 10cm is 10.73 Watt on a 10-watt lamp. While the area of 10cm x 10cm and 13cm x 10cm produces an output power of 7.32 Watts and 9.2 watts on a 10 Watt lamp. The highest efficiency in an area of 16cm x 10cm is 22.33%. Maximum rotation is obtained at an area of 16cm x 10cm. The maximum torque at an area of 10cm x 10cm is 4.05 Nm at a 30 watt lamp load.
