Abstract

This study compares the performance test between Switch Multilayer 3750 and Router 2800 using the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing protocol. The main function of BGP is to exchange network information from one router to another BGP router. The parameters used are Packet Loss, Throughput and Delay by using the standardized Quality of Service (QoS) version of TIPHON. The results of the QoS parameters on packet loss testing for Switch Multilayer 3750 devices using 2 clients resulted in an average of 0.217 % and a router 2800 of 0.631%. Tests using 5 clients on a multilayer switch 3750 resulted in an average of 0.221% and a router 2800 of 0.869% and testing of 10 clients on a multilayer switch 3750 produced an average of 0.698% and a router 2800 of 1.054%. The throughput parameter of the 3750 multilayer switch device produces an average of more than 700 kbps per test of 2 clients, 5 clients and 10 clients and all of them are categorized as adequate, while the router 2800 gets an average of less than 338 kbps per client so it is categorized as bad. The delay parameter generated by the 3750 multilayer switch with 2 clients produces an average of 510.950 ms and the router 2800 is 7013,837 ms, while the test of 5 clients on the 3750 multilayer switch with an average of 77.109 ms and the router 2800 is 1566,417 ms. 10 clients on 3750 multilayer switches produce an average of 111,881 ms and 2800 routers with an average of 583,382. The results showed that the use of a 3750 multilayer switch device was superior to a 2800 router device for all parameters.
